What is motion Waste?
Definition – All Movement that does not add value, such us
walking and reaching, is waste.
Example – Inside sales personal for a commodity product are required to leave their desks and walk to a fax machine located at the far end of the room in order to send quotes.
This means that they are often away from their desks when a customer calls.
When the inside sales personnel return the calls, most of the time the potential customers have already placed their orders with someone else.
What is processing waste?
Definition – Any non-optimally performed work is processing
waste. Employees are hard at work, but there is a better way to do the job.
Example- A pricing specialist is hard at work, never takes breaks and is always helpful and responsive.
Yet he takes 20 percent longer to
prepare each quote because he was not well trained.
